I awake to sunny skies and head off for Woodstock, NB to see if I can catch the spirit of the '60's. And again like an asthetically-challenged person, I find the more you get to know them, the beauty of the person inside comes out. The same is true of New Brunswick; the countryside turns prettier and I stop in Grand Falls to buy a warm, gore tex coat which is making me reconsider my NFLD trek. I also buy gloves. The problem is that my shirt gets damp from sweat so when I stop, I freeze! No longer...toasty warm now. People greet me and ask about my trip. Much amazement as to the distance come. I break down and buy a uke because the nights are early now but I don't always feel like going to sleep. Happy with the music availability again and thank the guy in Long and McQuade who was nice enough to throw in a gig bag to extend the shelf life of the uke. The Hwy 130 by the water is quite pretty and the farms have changed to a new crop-Potatoes! The implement digs into the ground and then throws the spuds into a truck. Along the roads now there are refugee spuds lying here and there. In Quebec, the roadkill seemed to be bullfrogs. I saw more of those guys than anything else. The lack of roadkill here is troubling on several fronts. Am very happy to have finally found a library in Perth-Andover and without a limit on time! Looking forward to making Fredricton tomorrow.
Much like an asethically-challenged person, I was finding it hard to warm up to Quebec's older sister, New Brunswick. The houses were plain, the highways quite boring and straight, and even the scattering of colour in the leaves wasn't lifting my spirits. The clouds came in again and on the first drop of rain I headed to a retaurant motel for a break. The break turned into a stay as I really didn't want to bike in the rain. I used the day to recuperate in the warmth. I found out later that the ferry from Argentina to Sydney is no longer running after Friday so I might drop to Halifax as being the ending point. This is causing me some personal struggle as i was geared to go to NFLD but not the long way around. More troubling still, I watched my first episode of the ¨Honey Boo Boo¨show and am still trying to process what I saw. I question why this is on the Learning Channel. I have a good, warm sleep.
