Bruce Brown
After having hosted me, cooking me a dinner, and giving me great tips for my trip, Bruce took the trouble to drive after me to give me the jacket that I had forgotten. Thank you for your efforts Bruce
Donna, Rocky Mountain House Park Attendant
Donna allowed me to store all of my stuff under her trailer while I went to do stuff in town. Thanks for your consideration, Donna!
Jay, Velocity Cycle Bike Mechanic
Even though Jay was obviously busy, he took a look at my bike and helped me out in a pinch. He also gave me a tonne of tips for traveling in general and specifics on the route ahead. Great job today, Jay!
Patti, Cashier at Battleford Pool
Patti was not afraid to harness the power of electricity to my iphone and even went into the downstairs office to do so. You are a lifesaver, thanks!
Myrtle Chase, Roblin Town Librarian
Mrs. Chase graciously declined the chance to have her picture taken but she is still a recipient for allowing me to use the town's computers well past the hour that is stated. I appreciate the flexibilty, Mrs. Chase!
Laura-Lee, Selkirk Warm Showers Host
This entry is an odd one since she has never appeared in my blog. This lady offered to let me stay at her place and even offered to drive out of her way to pick me up and take me to their cottage in Whiteshell. I honestly believe that if I had asked, she would have wisked me away in her car and come and pick me up. For her gracious offer of generosity, I award her a Hall of Heros! Well done, Laura-Lee.
Tania Lapalme (Lac des Bois Co-worker/Unofficial Support Tour Co-ordinator)
Tania not only paid for my beer in Saskatoon, she took care of dinner/beer in Winnipeg! She also drove me around, arranged accomodation in St, Adolphe, and was generally a great person to meet up with again and again! I can see one time but twice?? Thanks so much Tania, enjoy the rest of your visit!
Kenora Library Staff
I had expressed feedback to the CEO, Erin, about the limited use of the computers when I first visited. Erin graciously replied to my letter, explained their position and said I could use them for as long as wanted. When I came back in a 2nd time, I was not sure I was on the blacklist. I paid for extra time when my 30 minutes expired but the library staff figured out who I was (helmut?, smell? stunned appearance?) and figured out that I was the nutcase who wrote the letter. I can't seem to stop my ranting even when I am away from home. They graciously brought back my money and told me to take all the time I needed. What a great staff!!
Yurtle the Turtle Shirt
This shirt was with me from the start and saw it all through thick and thin. Suddenly, without warning, was taken from me as I left the Sault. Perhaps it saw the down and out streets and got homesick for Prince George. It was a great shirt and will be long remembered.
Carlos Obillos
Most times, I am happy to except a "Sorry I can't host you" from potential hosts. However, Carlos couldn't host me but took the trouble to find a place for me. He is what makes warm showers great. Thanks so much Carlos! Welcome to the Hall of Heros!
Toni, YMCA Member Services Owen Sound YMCA
When I come into a rec centre, I explain that I'd like to clean up and they usually charge me for using their facilities. Toni asked me what I was doing and where I was from and when I explained that I wanted to clean up, she just waved me in. I asked if she wanted to charge me and she said, "No." Then, she provided me with a towel and I went to enjoy a nice shower. Thanks a lot Toni!
Loney/Gleason Family
I know, people will be crying foul because these people are related to me but the effort with which they took to welcome me deserves some mention. They drove 30 minutes to pick me up, hustled me off to a concert, kept me stuffed with wonderful food, bought presents, gave items of theirs away, and drove me an hour south to drop me off under the guise of needing to go shopping! Truly, an effort of monumentous proportions! Well done and congratulations Karen, Dan, Rachel, Aurora, and Uncle Orv!
My Family
There's a good reason I come back every four years like a bad case of Lyme's and that is to bask in the hospitality of my family. They let me stay in their houses, cooked me fantastic meals, eat their food, drive their cars, torment their dogs and children, and asked nothing in return save my patience and sanity! Thanks for being such welcoming people and for putting up with my idiosyncracies. For this, I nominate you to the Hall of Heros!
Johann and Tiffany Ramsaran
With only 4 hours of notice, these 2 offered me a lawn, then upgraded me to a fantastic suite in their house. I am blown away by their willingness to help their fellow teaching colleague so immediately. True Heros! Welcome to the Hall! Thanks, David
My Ukulele
My ukulele has travelled with me and provided many hours of enjoyment and a way for me to channel what I am seeing into words and music. The rainstorms and road have taken their toll and rather it disintegrate on the road. I have chosen to retire it so that it might be restored and played again. It rests in dry dock at Port Perry. Dum Spiro, Spero my friend, Dum Spiro Spero.
Unknown Librarian at Perth Andover
This kind lady let me go extended hours on the computer, told me my time was up but as soon as another computer became available, invited me on again. Great job Hero!
