I lack a certain energy getting up after yesterdays marathon ride but am excited about visiting the bustling town of Yorkton. I go through the motions of the morning-taking down camp, cooking breakfast (15 more packets of oatmeal to go!), and thinking about the shape of the day. I blow through the first two towns easily but notice that there are slopes here that weren't there to the west. I also notice a slight headwind that continues to increase. I am finding that chunks of 25 km are good spots to rest. I see that Foam Lake has a visitor centre so I pull in take a break. The young lady agree to charge my phone and gives me a tour of the Douglas House. A home built in 1913 without running water and recently donated to the town. She also asks me if I'll be the town's Visitor of the Week. Apparently, she has trouble getting people to answer 5 questions, none of which are too probing. CBC has proclaimed Foam Lake "The Best Place in the World to Live!". Foam Lake's main industry seems to be on the backs of the ducks and other wildlife that it protects. Dad would have been very happy here.
I pass by an rectangular, white object and it takes me a second to process that it is a phone. I turn around and pick up an iphone. I am even more surprised when I find out its working. I am excited about getting the phone back to its owner but will need to charge it up more. Wish me luck!
The wind keeps up and I almost throw in the towel 24 km outside Yorkton but I fuel up with bean wraps and make it in. I camp right behind the Pioneer musuem and get a restful sleep. Tomorrow, I will make a run for the border!
