I didn't actually plan on setting out and going so far, it just happened. As always, getting out of town is a problem but I eventually claw my way out. Its overcast and the wind is in my favour! A couple tiny groups of Hells Angels roar past but its nothing like the intro into Saskatoon. I worry about rain but it doesn't even spit. I stop in Guernsey (90km) for lunch and it proclaims itself "The Heart of Saskatchewan". I can think of at least a dozen off-colour jokes about Saskatchewan but I'm too polite to start that here. There are probably about 200 people in town and its quiet except for the eatery which is packed. Next stop is Lanigan and I do a quick tour of the tourist stop/museum. Lanigan seems to have paid heavily during the Second World War and they have named lakes after the missing and killed. An interesting way to be remembered.
Right outside Lanigan, I see a speck off in the distance and get excited thinking it is another biker. It is a guy walking and when i slow down to ask him how he is he says, "Thirsty!". I offer him a drink and tell him he can keep the bottle. Turns out, he's run out of gas and is walking down the road to meet a guy coming from Swan lake. I don't question his story but wish him a better day. A slow country story about Lanigan begins in my head.
I eat dinner in Janses and am surprised to see there is a warm showers host there. I debate if I should call and then decide to take a chance. Pat and Howard Benson are nice folks who fill me in on roads and items of interests. They also provide a background of past cyclists. When their son brad and his wife Caroline show up for dinner, I head out of there as they have already been too welcoming. I'm happy I had a chance to meet them however briefly.
Last stop of the day is in Wynyard. I am genuinely tired. I check out an elementary school and am delighted it is beside the Lilydale processing plant. A great place to set up tent. Who comes to school in the summer? I decide that I need to have a new name for days over 150...perhaps Super Bruce Brown days??
