I am spending the day in town while Megumi heads to Yamagata to see her friend Yoko. I visited the International Centre which has a small libray and has a information centre that is gaijin friendly. I read the Japan Times and was happy to find lots of interesting tidbits. For example, Tokyo Disney had its first lesbian marriage but initially they wanted one to dress up as a groom. They relented a few days later and both got to wear dresses. Good for them. Not legally binding yet but a good first step. Another story talked about a man who was taken in an ambulance to about 25 hospitals but they all refused to admit him. He died in transit.????
I spent the rest of the time writing postcards. I asked the lady at the reception where I could find a computer and she told me that Funky Time was a place to go. I had a sushi lunch at Heiroku Zushi and then went to the big park near Asahigaoka. I must have gone round that park a thousand times when I lived here but I ended up getting lost anyway and walked round until I got back to the park entrance. The park has a 3 km walking course and is surrounded by old, old cedars and pine trees. Parts of the trail are not paved and it is actually nice to have something left natural here. I came back to the city centre and found the Funky Time place and I am blown away. I was expecting a computer terminal but they have private cubbies, blankets, hot towels, free drinks, and very comfy chairs. Its great! I forgot my cord so I can`t upload but I will have to come here again. What a great place. I get to meet Kayoko sensei tonight who I used to work with when I first came to Miyagi. She`s very friendly and I`m glad we`ve kept in touch. Tomorrow, I am going on the tour of the earthquake damage with Emi and Yuko, two of the craziest Japanese women I have ever met. :)
