I was able to meet up with the Nakajima's at the train station in Shibata. They originally got me into an English conversation group but then we just hung out every now and then. I had sent them New Years' cards for the last 10 years but had not heard back from them and I was worried that someone had passed away. Luckily not! Notable events fromthe past include the best New Years Eve with Rob Lubas where we sang karaoke, went back to the Nakajima's and feasted and then headed on over to the temple down the way to take in the festivities with their daughter Junko and her cute co-worker Chieko (?). I believe at one point at the house, the tv was showing an uncomfortably long and detailed segment on getting a sperm sample from a German Sheppard and Rob and I passed looks while the rest of us enjoyed the feast. The night went on forever and was very cool. Another time, they had invited me and Megumi to go see Cherry Blossoms along the Shiroishi River. This is the place with 1000 trees planted along the river. It was fantastic! But on the day, I thought we'd just sit for an hour and then take off on our own. Instead the Nakajima's kidnapped us and took us here and there. It was a very fun day!
Mr. Nakajima was busy as a city councillor so I felt a little bad imposing on him but he still seemed happy to see me. His wife was also still the same and always with a big smile. Junko came over to and we then went out for lunch. They had a scare with the earthquake but were ok from the tsunami. In the neighbourhood, many old houses were destroyed and you could see the new ones that had gone up. Like the Habu's, they went without for a month. We headed to a shop where disabled people made crafts and snacks and they bought me a whole slew of chewy rice balls with sesame sauce. Delicious. As I had to head back for the night, we parted ways quickly. None of them has a computer so it is unlikely they will ever read this. Lucky Souls!! A nice reunion with them.
