Emi, Yuko, Masako, and Megumi
This was perhaps the night I had both been anticipating and dreading at the same time. Hanging out with these two is a little like being at a roast. You have to be able to laugh at yourself and be prepared to take some ribbing. Some topics would be considered crude even by my low standards but highlights were Emi and I talking about how rude and loud Yuko was while she was trying to have a serious conversation with Masako. Additionally, they questioned why Megumi had bothered to invite me since it could have been a perfect girls night out without me. They had fallen out of touch with each other so it was good to reconnect everyone. I drank more than I should but was fairly coherent. Emi and I made a plan to meet the next day and go to a hotspring. At the end of the night, it got strange as the money had to be dealt with. I think Emi and Yuko and I tried to hand back a $100 bill back and forth about 6 times before 1 distracted me and the other put it in my bag and then ran away. They disappeared up the stairs and I knew we would never see them again. Masako had a wad of $10`s and was doing a similar battle with Megumi. When we got upstairs, Megumi and Masako were surprisd that they never said good bye. I`ve learned that with Emi and Yuko, anything is possible.
Masako, Megumi and I went to an old favourite jazz bar of ours that used to be a huge foreign hangout years ago but seemed to change as I was a teacher there. I loved it. Jazz music, dark lighting, ad a huge grand in the middle of the room. Once in a whie theres live music there. Good to be back. It was soon last train time and we hustled for the station. At the station, the money from Masako came out and I found it forced into my hand. I hugged Masako goodbye and then stuffed the money down the back of her shirt and quickly running past the train gates to safety. Victory!! A wonderful night!
