I broke camp at Ordres Beach and took a whole bunch of sand with me. I wound my way very leisurely up to the towns before I landed on this sweet bike path (velo voie vert) that promised to take me to Mimizan which the lady at tourist office? told me was touristy and pretty. The routes follow the main roads which are surrounded by forest. I believe we were in a national park of some kind. Then the paths just veered into the forest! It was a beautiful path carved through pine which was the size of a single lane. The only problem was that it was being managed so there were big tracks of clear cut forest. It reminded me of my planting days. It was around 4 and hot by the time I arrived in Mimizan so I called it a day and hit a wi- fi (we-fee) cafe for the next 2 hours and tried to round up a place in Bordeaux. I was certainly giving late notice but I actually scored some spots. Tres bien Bordeaux! My charger also worked so this was a successful day. Hit the beach later on and camped on one of the platforms so as to avoid getting washed away. Had a fantastic bath in the ocean and slept very well. Tent construction showed huge improvement!
Most interesting moment of the day came when I rounded the corner and caught a snake sleeping in the sun. My brakes worked fine but I was worried that it just be hot enough for the snake to be poisonous. He curled up into a strike position as I lifted my legs while simultaneously stopping 260 pounds on a dime. He may have gone for the front pannier and then sped off. Wide awake then!
