I help with the feedling of the cows and it involves taking a rotting layer of hay off a square bale. Because I am a visual learner, I watch as Kristen does it first and just man the wheelbarrow. Later on, we switch and I am amazed at how heavy the layer of sillage is. Due to Kristen's controlling nature, I am only allowed one chance at this before being relegated back to wheelbarrow guy. I am reminded of the old Shake and Bake commericals where the mom says that she made chicken with Shake ad Bake and the little girl says in that cute southern accent, "And I helped!" Et Je m'aide!
We went shopping in Richmond that Kristen does not like so much but found it to be quite pretty. We pass one of the three heritage buildings and see that it has burned down-sad. It had just been refinished too. I am very pleased to be able to buy Boreal beer because I haven't had any in 4 years and they don't sell it anywhere except Quebec! Fascists!
We get back and it is time to see to the cows again. We give them grain and then go for a walk. I thought I was a fast walker but Kristen walks about the speed of the Olmpic speed walkers and it was all I could do to keep up. I reluctantly decline to help with the next work ahead and see to my nap. I do get up and take pictures of kristen and kids doing chores. We finish up and the kids and I do some songs while Kristen and Jean continue to work in the barn. We prepare for the concert in the evening. "Ham and Eggs", "1,2,3," and "Meatballs and Spaghetti".
Kristen tries to play a song from the Bluegrass album I made but neglects to check the volume. It is on full blast and gives everyone a heart attack! Funnier later on. Kristen makes an amazing meal of Lasagna and afterwards, we finish off the evening with a concert. A great success! Jean provides encouragement to the kids just before their 2nd number with ,"Don't fudge it up!" I will need to use that when I get back to teaching and am looking for a way to lose my certificate! I talk with Kristen about my wish to see the Cremerie in Levis to eat ice cream and she jokes that it will probably be closed and I will be sitting on the steps eating my Chapmans from the carton. People go to bed early when they wake up at 4 around here. I choose to miss the early shifts on account of my mental preparation for the trip ahead.
In the morning, I am treated to a wonderful, relaxing meal of crepes which I share with the kids and Kristen. Kristen is nice enough to make me a lunch and provide me with 2 generous bags of trail mix! These come in handy later on up the St. Lawrence. The kids have the day off because the teachers must develop professionally so it is a calm, start to the day. I am reluctant to hurry becuase the farm is so agreeable and the company so pleasant. I have enjoyed my stay thoroughly. A little later I discover a blue hand sticker on my mirror and other than threats of sillage/cow manure coming along, I make it out safe.
